Purpose

To provide guidelines and procedures for all appointed BWHA representative team players.

This policy applies to all members selected as players for a BWHA Representative Team.

Policy Statement

Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association Inc. is committed to providing opportunities for all interested players to represent BWHA at Regional and State Championships. BWHA acknowledges its unique position and responsibility to ensure a nurturing environment for all members. The association will comply with all relevant legislation and regulations and will strive to achieve best practice in all areas while providing equitable opportunities for all. The Representative Team Players Policy will be made available on our website, and staff and members will be encouraged to contribute suggestions to improve this policy at any time.


Responsibility

The Development Department has been appointed as the Representative Team Players Policy Coordinator. They are responsible for the ongoing implementation and compliance with this policy. The policy will be reviewed annually.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM PLAYERS PROCEDURE


  1. Player’s First Responsibility:
    The player’s first responsibility is to the team and its well-being.

  2. Anti-Doping Policy:
    BWHA has adopted and supports the Hockey Queensland Anti-Doping Policy.

  3. Code of Conduct:
    The player is expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the BWHA Code of Conduct and uphold the good name of the Association at all times. If a player acts inappropriately while a member of a representative team, a report will be submitted by the Team Manager to the BWHA Board of Management, and the player will be invited to attend a hearing while the complaint is under discussion. Please refer to the BWHA Rules for Representative Teams.

  4. Spirit of Sportsmanship:
    The player is expected to participate in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

  5. Underage Alcohol, Smoking, and Vaping Policy:
    Players under the age of 18 are prohibited from smoking, vaping, or consuming alcohol. They must comply with the Team Manager’s curfew times.

  6. Players Aged 18 and Over:
    Players over the age of 18 are expected to adhere to curfew times and are strongly discouraged from smoking, vaping, and alcohol consumption. Players must follow the Team Manager’s instructions.

  7. Prohibited Substances:
    The use of recreational drugs or prohibited methods for the ingestion of legal substances, as per Anti-Doping laws, is strictly prohibited.


The Player Shall:

  1. Attend Trials and Training:
    Attend all team trials and training sessions (compulsory). If unable to attend, the player must immediately notify the Team Manager. If more than one training session is missed, the Team Manager will notify BWHA, and the player will need to justify their absences to retain their place in the team.

  2. Uniform Requirements:
    The player must wear the designated uniform for traveling and transfers, as directed by the Team Manager. Players are also required to wear the designated uniform and equipment for games, including black bike pants or full black briefs, black compression garments, shin pads, and socks pulled up. Players may wear black-sleeved shirts or compression garments under their uniform shirt for sun or muscle protection.

  3. Adhere to Directions:
    Once advised of assembly details, the player must adhere to the directions of the Team Manager and/or the association.

  4. Travel with the Team:
    Players must be accommodated and travel with the contingent as directed. Applications to travel separately must accompany the nomination form and be approved by BWHA Management, in accordance with the Rules.

  5. Permission to Leave Tournament:
    Players wishing to travel home with their parents after the tournament must submit a request in writing at least 2 weeks prior to departure. If granted permission, players may leave 1 hour after their last game or the closing ceremony, but their parent must sign them out with the Team Manager.

  6. Respect for Authority:
    The player must accept the authority of the Team Manager off the field and the authority of the Coach/Captain on the field.

  7. Attendance at Official Meetings:
    The player must attend all official meetings and functions as directed by the Team Manager.

  8. Direct Grievances to Team Manager:
    Any grievances must be directed to the Team Manager.

  9. Monetary Obligations:
    Players must pay any required fees at least 14 days prior to the tournament’s commencement. Payments can be made via cash, credit card, cheque, or direct deposit. If payment difficulties arise, players/guardians should contact the BWHA Office before the payment deadline to discuss payment plan options. Failure to comply may result in the player being classified as unfinancial and removed from the team.

  10. Forms Completion:
    Players must complete the Player Agreement, Medical and Indemnity Form, and Uniform Order Form by the due date and return them to the Team Manager.

  11. Fitness Test for Injured Players:
    Players injured prior to any event must undergo a fitness test at least 14 days before departure or the last training session. The player must notify the Team Manager and refer to the policy for fitness testing of injured or sick players.

  12. Withdrawal from the Team:
    If a player needs to withdraw from the team, they must submit a written notification to BWHA, including a full explanation and, if applicable, a medical certificate. BWHA will refund any monies paid, minus any costs incurred to date, only if a suitable replacement is found.
